Business: Astrum (formerly William Cook Defence) provides the integrated design, manufacture and assembly of steel track and running gear for armoured fighting vehicles and heavy commercial machinery. The business employs more than 1,000 staff at its engineering sites in Sheffield, County Durham and Staffordshire and is an exclusive supplier to the MoD.

Deal: Following a strategic decision by William Cook Holdings to divest of its defence division, the management team acquired the business for an undisclosed sum, backed by the Integrated Finance team of HBoS.

Our Role: McInnes Corporate Finance advised the management team through an intensive process in a very tight timescale, providing a full range of support covering negotiations with HBoS, detailed financial modelling and a complex legal process.

Astrum is a great example of how specialist manufacturing is still very much alive and well in the UK.
